Overview
What is the EGON electric wire rope hoist?
An EGON electric wire rope hoist lifts loads on a galvanized steel wire rope wound on a drum, for overhead cranes from 3 to 50 tonnes. The EGH-S series is a single girder low headroom hoist for 3 to 20 t, and the EGH-D series is a double girder hoist for 3 to 50 t. Most models lift at 5 / 0.8 m/min with 4/1 reeving as standard.

Duty classification
Match the hoist to your duty class
EGON sizes hoists by FEM and ISO duty groups. Estimate your load spectrum and average daily operating time, then read the group from the table.
| Load spectrum | Definition | 1Bm (M3) | 1Am (M4) | 2m (M5) | 3m (M6) | 4m (M7) | 5m (M8) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light | Only occasionally loaded to the maximum, with a medium dead load. | up to 2 | 2–4 | 4–8 | 8–16 | over 16 | — |
| Medium | Usually small loads, but rather often maximum loads. | up to 1 | 1–2 | 2–4 | 4–8 | TBC | over 16 |
| Heavy | Usually medium loads, but frequently maximum loads. | up to 0.5 | 0.5–1 | 1–2 | 2–4 | 4–8 | 8–16 |
| Very heavy | Usually maximum or almost maximum loads. | up to 0.25 | 0.25–0.5 | 0.5–1 | 1–2 | 2–4 | 4–8 |
Average operating time per day: tm = (2 × HW × ASP × AZ) ÷ (60 × V), where HW is the average hook path (m), ASP the cycles per hour, AZ the working hours per day and V the hoisting speed (m/min).
How to choose
7 questions for choosing the right wire rope hoist
- What are the operating conditions? Environment, temperature, humidity, dust and space.
- What is the specified safe working load? The maximum load capacity for safety.
- To what height must the load be lifted? This sets the chain or rope length and the hoist type.
- What is the required lifting speed? High for production, low for maintenance.
- Must loads be lifted and lowered with great accuracy? Use an inverter or dual-speed motor for precision.
- Is horizontal load travel necessary? Then choose a hoist with a trolley, or a crane system.
- How is the hoist to be controlled? By pendant, remote control or control panel.

FAQ
Electric Wire Rope Hoist: common questions
Quick answers from the product catalogue.
What capacities do EGON wire rope hoists cover?
The EGH-S single girder low headroom series covers 3 to 20 tonnes, and the EGH-D double girder series covers 3 to 50 tonnes.
What is the difference between EGH-S and EGH-D?
EGH-S runs on a single girder crane and is built for low headroom, so you gain lifting height under a low roof. EGH-D runs on top of a double girder crane and reaches 50 t, with 6/2 reeving from 25 t upward.
How fast does an EGON wire rope hoist lift?
Most models lift at 5 / 0.8 m/min with 4/1 reeving as standard. Heavier models lift at 4.0 / 0.7 m/min, and 25 to 50 t EGH-D models use variable speeds such as 0 to 4.1 m/min.
What lifting heights are available?
The standard tables list 6 to 15.4 m depending on capacity. Hoists with a lifting height above 12 m are available on request.
What power supply and protection do they use?
Standard 3-phase 380 to 415 V, 50 Hz (other voltages on request), a 48 VAC control voltage, IP55 protection, and assembly and wiring to IEC standards.
Which safety features are included?
A precision geared limit switch with four contacts, electro-mechanical overload protection, phase protection, a DC disk brake with a safety factor of 1.8, thermal motor protection and an RSN hook to DIN 15401.
