How to choose

7 questions for choosing the right winch

  1. What are the operating conditions? Environment, temperature, humidity, dust and installation space.
  2. What pulling capacity is required? The maximum pulling force the application needs.
  3. What pulling distance is required? This sets the rope length or drum capacity.
  4. What line speed is required? Fast pulling for efficiency, or slower speed for precision.
  5. Is precise load control necessary? Use inverter control or a variable speed system.
  6. Will the load be pulled horizontally or lifted vertically? This determines the winch configuration and safety requirements.
  7. How will the winch be controlled? By pendant, remote control or control panel.

FAQ

Electric Winch: common questions

Quick answers from the product catalogue.

What capacities do EGON NWB winches cover?

The NWB series covers 10 to 100 tonnes, in ten capacities: 10, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50, 63, 80 and 100 t.

What is the difference between NWB-QD and NWB-NW?

NWB-QD is the heavy open winch and NWB-NW the compact open winch. At 50 t, the NWB-QD weighs 12,680 kg on 500 mm wheels, and the NWB-NW weighs 5,928 kg on 320 mm wheels with a lower build height.

Which component brands are used?

An SEW X Series gearbox, an SEW DRN motor (IE3), Schneider Electric components in the control panel and high-strength wire rope from Bridon.

How fast do NWB winches lift and travel?

Lifting is inverter controlled, from 0.65–6.5 m/min at 10 t down to 0.25–2.5 m/min at 100 t. Travel speed is 2 to 20 m/min on every model.

Which safety features do NWB winches have?

A dual paddle upper limit switch, phase protection relay, rotational limit switch, overload limit switch and cross limit switch, with an optional load display and data logger.

Can the winch pull at an angle?

Yes. The heavy-duty rope guide supports angled pulling up to ±10 degrees without rope derailment.
